Laundry detergent sheets are known for not having as strong a scent as traditional laundry detergent. Why is that?
This is because laundry strips are made from highly concentrated detergent. That means we can pack more cleaning power into a smaller, lighter form. The downside? There's less surface area and weight for the scent to stick to.
For example, a laundry pod weighs about 20 grams, while laundry strips are only 3-4 grams. That means we can store almost 5x less fragrance than traditional detergent. So, it's just not possible to enjoy all the benefits of laundry strips being so light and compact, and still match the scent intensity of a laundry pod.
Can't we just add more fragrance?
Yes and no. We could increase the percentage, but that would affect the formula and other ingredients. Plus, the more fragrance we add, the more likely it is that people might have an allergic reaction.
What are some possible solutions?
In our latest formula, we've adjusted the percentages so it leaves a bit more scent behind, without causing allergic reactions for most people. These will be available from October 2023. Laundry detergent sheets are actually known for being gentle—even if you get allergic reactions from traditional detergent, that's usually not the case with detergent sheets.
- Use laundry perfume or scent boosters. Just add a few drops of laundry perfume, fabric softener, or our scent boosters. This way, you can choose exactly how strong you want your laundry to smell.
- Wait until your laundry is dry, then rub your clothes together. Another thing with laundry sheets is that you won’t smell any scent right after washing, while your laundry is still wet. The scent will subtly appear once your laundry is dry and you rub the fabrics together. That way, you’ll enjoy long-lasting fragrance while walking, running, or moving around.
- Use the detergent drawer. Sometimes your laundry sheet might not dissolve properly. Pop it in the drawer to make sure all the ingredients get activated.
- Use an extra (half) strip. Add half or a whole strip for a big load. Don’t use more than 2 strips, or they won’t work as well. Make sure there’s at least a fist’s space between your laundry and the top of the drum.
- Take your laundry out of the drum as soon as it’s done, wash at a lower temperature, and set your spin cycle to 1000+ rpm. If you leave your laundry in the drum for too long, it’ll start to smell musty. The same goes if it takes too long to dry. Crank up the spin speed so your laundry comes out drier. Fragrances have their own “flash point,” which means they’re less effective or even lost at higher temperatures. Wash between 30-60 degrees for the best scent results.
Hope these tips help you get fresher-smelling laundry!
