Once upon a time, I was arguing with my girlfriend about a wooden cutting board in the dishwasher. Actually, you're not supposed to do that, especially not with chemical dishwasher tablets.

But I'll be honest: I'm too lazy to always wash by hand. Same goes for spatulas.

My girlfriend didn't want a plastic cutting board because of microplastics. We both found glass or stone unpleasant for cutting.

So we decided to do things differently.

That's a conscious choice. The material is precious, the set is completely designed by us and the boards are large and heavy. We chose double-sided rubber feet so the board doesn't shift during cutting.

One side has a juice groove for those who work a lot with moist ingredients; the other side is completely flat, for when every centimeter counts. We kept the groove as subtle as possible and moved it to the edges, so you retain maximum cutting space.

Three sizes, one logical set

The set consists of three cutting boards:

Small: for quick cutting work
Medium: for daily use
Large: for larger quantities

The largest board is deliberately wider instead of higher, so it fits in a standard dishwasher.

You also get a minimalist holder: practical, quick-drying and pleasant to use.

Material & technology

The cutting boards are made from FSC-certified wood fibers that have been compressed under extremely high pressure. To make the material strong, water-resistant and durable, the fibers are bonded with a resin binder (plastic) that fully cures during production and is BPA-free. The resin is LFGB certified and offers the advantages of wooden cutting boards combined with the convenience of plastic cutting boards.

This creates a stable wood fiber composite that:

• is not porous, doesn't absorb moisture, odors or bacteria
• doesn't splinter, warp, crack or split
  
• requires no maintenance

The material is not unbreakable, with a sharp knife you'll see cut marks, but considerably less deep and fast than with traditional wood or plastic cutting boards.

A good cutting board needs a good spatula. Because yes, we had arguments about that too.

Wooden spatulas aren't dishwasher safe, and we didn't want plastic. So we also developed a set of two spatulas with the same advantages as the cutting boards:

FAQ

Is this cutting board made of plastic?

No. The cutting board consists of 80% wood fibers. To make these fibers strong and water-resistant, a special resin is used (plastic) that's designed not to release microplastics, but technically it's also not 100% natural. The material doesn't feel like plastic and behaves differently than conventional plastic cutting boards.

Why do you use a binding agent?

Without a binding agent, wood fibers would absorb water and wear out faster. Additionally, the board would no longer be dishwasher resistant. This construction makes the cutting board last much longer, which fits with our focus on sustainability and less waste.

Is this cutting board safe?

Yes, this cutting board is LFGB certified and is considered the benchmark within Europe for food safety. This is a German standard where an accredited lab performs tests based on actual migration and contamination to food.
