Once upon a day, I was arguing with my friend about putting a wooden chopping board in the dishwasher. Actually, you shouldn’t, especially not with chemical dishwasher tablets.

But to be honest: I’m too lazy to always wash by hand. Same goes for spatulas.

My friend didn’t want a plastic chopping board because of microplastics. We both didn’t like cutting on glass or stone.

So we decided to do it differently.

That’s a conscious choice. The material is precious, the set is fully designed by us, and the boards are large and heavy. We chose double-sided rubber feet so the board doesn’t slip while cutting.

One side has a juice groove for those who work a lot with moist ingredients; the other side is completely flat, for when every centimetre counts. We kept the groove as subtle as possible and moved it to the edges, so you retain maximum cutting space.

Three sizes, one logical set

The set consists of three chopping boards:

Small: for quick chopping
Medium: for daily use
Large: for bigger quantities

The largest board is deliberately wider rather than taller, so it fits in a standard dishwasher.

You also get a minimalist holder: practical, quick-drying, and pleasant to use.

Material & technology

The chopping boards are made from FSC-certified wood fibres compressed under extremely high pressure. To make the material strong, water-resistant, and durable, the fibres are bonded with a resin binder (plastic) that fully cures during production and is BPA-free. The resin is LFGB certified and combines the benefits of wooden chopping boards with the convenience of plastic ones.

This creates a stable wood fibre composite that:

• is non-porous, does not absorb moisture, odours, or bacteria
• does not splinter, warp, or crack
  
• requires no maintenance

The material is not unbreakable; with a sharp knife you will see cut marks, but significantly less deep and faster than with traditional wood or plastic boards.

FAQ

Is this chopping board made of plastic?

No. The chopping board consists of 80% wood fibres. To make these fibres strong and water-resistant, a special resin (plastic) is used that is designed not to release microplastics, but technically it is not 100% natural either. The material does not feel like plastic and behaves differently from common plastic chopping boards.

Why do you use a binder?

Without a binder, wood fibres would absorb water and wear out faster. Also, the board would no longer be dishwasher safe. This construction makes the chopping board last much longer, which fits our focus on sustainability and less waste.

Is this chopping board safe?

Yes, this chopping board is LFGB certified and is considered the benchmark within Europe for food safety. This is a German standard where a recognised lab conducts tests based on actual migration and contamination to food.
