🛍️ Haarlem Store Update
We are now in week 3 of the renovation and on schedule for the opening at the end of March. What a lot of work in preparation! Not just the construction – luckily with our two left hands we don’t have to deal with that – but especially all the details around the store’s decoration. It’s really going to be a special store!
BEFORE

AFTER 😀

Please ignore the mess! 😬 The lowered ceiling has been removed to make everything feel more spacious. The holes in the wall are preparations for floating cabinets, as the drywall cannot support the weight on its own. The floor has also been removed; it will be replaced with a beautiful, warm-toned linoleum.
We have been preparing for a year: from the store design to the bags, products, price tags, and more. Our goal to open in November proved unfeasible. Because stock purchasing had to be aligned with the extra sales from the store, we now have more inventory than usual, and last week two full containers arrived. Our warehouse is bursting at the seams, and all aisles are filled with pallets.

This is what it looks like 😨 Bottom left you can see the scent pearl machine, which we can no longer access. That’s why we are slowing down production for two reasons: one, we have no space, and two, we are exploring alternatives that are more environmentally friendly, cheaper, and easier to produce. We see promising innovations in this industry that could offer us more than the current production process. Moving and reconnecting the electricity would cost us about €10,000, so if we switch to another process, we’d rather invest that money in other projects.
We could create extra space by building upwards, but then we would have to adjust light fixtures, buy new shelving, anchor into the floor, and work with reach trucks. Since this hall will only serve as a production hall in the future, we think it’s a waste to invest in that. Next month we will meet with our landlord to explore expansion options on our site: about 2500 m² of extra hall space, with loading docks! 🎉
🤔 What is a loading dock? In our previous mailings, we already mentioned our wish for a loading dock. This is a pit where a trailer can back in so that the loading area is level with the warehouse floor. This makes loading and unloading containers, pallets, and machines much easier!

Here you see Jolijn (our store architect from Studio Kees) and Jason reviewing materials for the cabinets and price tags. The ceiling, the wall of the Bamboozy shop-in-shop, and the floor will get a beautiful, soft tone. More on this soon!
💚 Food Bank Update

Visiting Food Bank IJmond-Noord
Last month Jason and Vivienne visited Food Bank IJmond-Noord to get acquainted. The friendly Martien Herruer, general board member, answered our questions and gave us a tour. Of course, we donated more than this bag; this was just the sample package 😉

We learned a lot about how a food bank operates. Early
