Do you struggle with (severe) sweat odor in your clothes and can't get it out properly? Sweat odor is not always easy to get out of clothes. With these tips you can get your clothes smelling fresh again!
1. Wash Right Away
The easiest tip there is: wash your sweaty clothes as soon as possible after wearing them. The longer you wait, the more time sweat has to settle into the fabric. Use detergent and a fabric softener or fragrance boosters to fight odors.
2. Using Vinegar
Add a cup of white vinegar to your cycle. Vinegar is an excellent natural deodorizer. For stubborn odors you can soak the clothes for an hour before washing in a solution of water and vinegar (1:1).
3. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is also good at neutralizing odors and removing sweat stains. Mix lemon juice with an equal amount of water and rub this onto the sweat spots before you wash the clothes.
4. Baking Soda
Baking soda is also very effective at neutralizing odors. Sprinkle some baking soda directly onto the sweat spots. Leave it to work overnight before you wash the clothes. You can also add half a cup of baking soda to your wash cycle for extra neutralization.
5. Using Special Detergents
There are detergents on the market that are specially developed to remove sweat odors. These contain enzymes that break down the bacteria and odor molecules.
6. Treat with Vodka
Did you read that right? Yes! Sweat is caused by bacteria. Vodka kills these odor-causing bacteria. Fill a spray bottle with unscented vodka, for example, and spray it directly onto the sweat stain. Let it dry and wash your laundry as usual.
7. Air and Dry Directly in the Sun
Hang your clothes outside to dry right after washing. Fresh air and direct sunlight help remove odors and also make any musty smells disappear. This is also one of the best ways to deal with musty laundry if you simply cannot get the musty smell out.
8. Repeat the Treatment
For stubborn odors you may need to repeat the steps above several times. As long as the odors are getting weaker, you are on the right track. So don't give up if the smell is not gone right away.
Experiment with different methods and you will definitely find a way that works for you. Good luck! 😊
