Laundry sheets are known for not having as strong a scent as traditional detergent. Why is that exactly?
This is because laundry sheets consist of highly concentrated detergent. This allows us to pack more cleaning product in a smaller and lighter form. The downside is that there is less surface area and weight for the scent to adhere to.
For example, a laundry pod weighs about 20 grams, while a laundry sheet weighs only 3-4 grams. Therefore, we can store almost 5 times less scent than traditional detergent. It is impossible to enjoy all the benefits of laundry sheets being so light and small, while matching the scent intensity of a laundry pod.
Can’t we just add more scent?
Yes and no. We can increase the percentage, but this affects the composition and other ingredients. Also, more people may experience allergic reactions when the perfume content is increased.
What are possible solutions?
In our latest formula, we have adjusted the percentages to leave a bit more scent without causing allergic reactions in a large group. These are available from October 2023. Laundry sheets are known for not causing allergic reactions even if traditional detergent does.
- Use wasparfum or scent pearls. Use a few drops of wasparfum, fabric softener, or our scent pearls. This lets you control your own scent intensity.
- Wait until your laundry is dry, then rub your clothes together. Another point with laundry sheets is that you won’t smell the scent immediately after washing when the laundry is still wet. The scent subtly develops as the laundry dries and you rub the clothes together. This gives you long-lasting scent while walking, running, and moving.
- Dose via the detergent drawer. Your laundry sheet might not dissolve properly. Dosing via the drawer ensures all ingredients become active.
- Use an extra (half) sheet. Add half or a whole sheet for a large load. Do not use more than 2 sheets as effectiveness decreases. Make sure there is at least a fist-sized gap between your laundry and the top of the drum.
- Remove your laundry from the drum immediately when done, wash at a lower temperature, and increase your spin speed to 1000+ rpm. Leaving laundry too long in the drum causes mustiness. This also applies if your laundry takes too long to dry. Increase spin speed so laundry comes out drier. Perfumes have a "flash point," meaning they are less or not effective above certain temperatures. Wash between 30-60 degrees for optimal scent retention.
